51 SU was opened in 1961 as a primary school. The director is Mrs. Maria Georgieva. 632 students are studying. In 1970, he adopted the name "Vasil Demirevski". In 1991, by decision of the Ministry of Education and Culture, 51 OU became a secondary school with profiled study of fine arts. His name is changing - "Elisaveta Bagryana". The director is Mrs. Trayanka Raykova. Admission to classes with intensive study of French and English languages begins. 

Since 2004, the director of the school is Mr. Asen Alexandrov. A class with the profile "Information Technologies" is opened. 3 computer rooms have been renovated and basically equipped. The entire team undergoes a training course for basic computer literacy. Subsequently, the number of computer rooms increased. The corridors are transformed into picture galleries with works by the students of 51 SU. The learning environment is ennobled with rich landscaping. 

In 2012, the chapel "St. Pimen Zografski". The saint is the patron of painters and artists. The architectural project and the construction of the chapel are carried out through donations from parents, and the interior is the work of students and teachers. In 2018, the school opened the newly renovated northern wing of the building - a center for natural sciences with modern classrooms and laboratories for mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and geography, as well as corners for relaxation and self-training of students. In 2020, 2 computer labs were added to this center.

In 2019, the First National School Conference "Shared Pedagogical Practices in Science Teaching" was held. Teachers from all over the country participate. 

51 SU participates in numerous projects under the Erasmus program, the Fulbright program (for teaching assistants from the USA), the Best Foundation, etc. It cooperates with the Confucius Institute and offers Chinese language training to willing students from grades 2 to 12.

In the academic year 2019/2020, 51. "Elisaveta Bagryana" Secondary School acquired the status of an Innovative School with the decision of the Ministry of Education. Problem-based learning provides the opportunity to apply what has been learned in the various academic subjects in real situations. In the same academic year, admission to a new professional class - "Computer schedule". From the academic year 2022/2023, after a new application, the innovation of 51 SU is "Building 51 virtues in 51 weeks in 51 SU", with the aim of applying human virtues, forming worthy personal qualities and involving more parents as partners in school life.

 

The Covid-19 pandemic made it necessary to conduct the training in an electronic environment at a distance through Google Workspace For Education. Despite the unusual end of the school year, students from the 7th and 12th grades successfully passed their exams (HVO and DZI) and for another year achieved results that were higher than the average for the country.

Over the years, various traditional activities such as "Open Door Days" and "Parent Teacher for a Day" have been created in 51.SU with the aim of actively involving parents. A Community Council, School Board, Student Council and Parent-Teacher Associations have been established and are working. A school newspaper is published. "Vesti +", school television "TV51" operates, and from 2021, also school radio, which sounds before the start of both shifts and in between classes. School exhibitions are organized every year. Holidays are solemnly celebrated and Christmas and Easter charity bazaars are held. Student Self-Government Day is held every year on May 9.
